McGill’s Hawks hat in D2 might be one of the great movie hats of all time, and one of our readers has re-created it.
Behold, Kevin’s work:
It’s a replica Hawks hat!
“Most of my buddies wear New Era 5950 caps so it’s not an exact replica (he wore a Starter snapback in the movie),” Kevin wrote. “But this hat has gotten lots of compliments, and lead to me having to order a second batch of 18 for all the people who wanted them.”
Stupendous work. The cap was a custom order and isn’t available for sale anywhere, but if you want to inquire about another order, Kevin may be able to hook you up.
(Disclaimer: As a podcast that would like to be in the good graces of Disney we cannot endorse or support this hat. We will say some neutral observers would say this is pretty stellar.)

We could have a real debate about the merits of the Ducks’ overall look vs. the Hawks. The D5 green and yellow jersey is iconic, but the Hawks’ black and blue might be better on everything other than the jerseys. The biggest con with the Hawks? Their terrible logo. The weird polygon tool hawk isn’t a great start. Then there’s the red eye. Why would there be a red eye on a logo for a team that has zero red? Only the designers know.
Of course, it’s hard to separate the Hawks’ logo from what we know about them. We’ve talked extensively about the Hawks throughout the years, but none was as intense as our epic two-part Hawks series back in 2015.
But back to Kevin’s hat. He captured everything — even the logo — surprisingly well. The only difference, as he mentioned, is the back. While the starter snapback would be a vibe, it is forgivable. Overall rating: 9.5/10.
